What We Learned Closing Our PSA 1

This past April, Cheerio and I achieved something that still feels surreal—we closed out our PSA Level 1. To many, that might sound like just another step in the sport. But for someone who barely knew what working dogs were 2 years prior, it felt like a huge accomplishment and testament to how far we have both come.

The Challenge of PSA Training

The sport demands high level neutrality and obedience, confident protection work, and the ability to perform under pressure—both handler and dog. Every rep, every session, every correction and reward builds toward a bigger picture.

MORE OFTEN THAN NOT

THE PROCESS TESTS YOU AS MUCH AS YOUR DOG.

It asks you to stay dedicated when progress feels slow, to show up when it would be easier to skip, and to keep faith in your dog when doubts creep in.

Dedication and Sacrifice

There were plenty of moments where it would’ve been easy to quit. Long days on the field, endless repetitions of “simple” behaviors, traveling to train with the right decoys, and managing Cheerio’s drive and energy. It all demanded a new level of patience, persistence, and sacrifice.

YOUR PSA 1 ISN'T JUST A TITLE

IT'S PROOF YOU REFUSED TO LET THE HARD DAYS WIN.

A Dog Who Rose to the Challenge

Cheerio has been my partner every step of the way. Together, we’ve learned how to trust each other under pressure, how to turn setbacks into lessons, and how to celebrate the small victories that eventually led to a pretty big one.

Standing on the field and watching him perform with heart and soul, reminded me why we started this journey in the first place: to build something exceptional, together and to forge a bond so special that it will last all of our lifetimes.

More Than Just a Title

Closing out our PSA 1 isn’t the end—it’s a milestone. A reminder that the hours, the sweat, and even the frustration pay off when you stay the course.

Cheerio and I are proof that with the right team, consistency, grit, and love for the work, you can achieve something that once felt impossible.

More Than A Team. It's Family.

This sport can't be done alone and Cheerio and I would be nowhere without our amazing team and support system at Cutting Edge Working Dog Club, Thursday Girl Gang, and Sunday Club.

You cannot underestimate the power of having coaches who have already achieved what you are trying to do in the sport. Their insight and experience is incredibly valuable.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart, to everyone who believes and pours into Cheerio and I. We could not be here without you!
